I currently have power drum brakes on all four. I want to upgrade to disc brakes on the front but I do not want to spend big bucks on a kit. Can I just take parts off of another challenger? if so what parts? I see alot of kits allow you to use the drum spindle and replace the rest out. can I just go and but a pair of 1970 disc brake parts from the spindle out?

thanks

I think the spindles are different on the disc cars. So you will need the spindles, caliper adaptors, calipers, discs, master cylinder from a disc braked donor 1970-72 E-body.

However.

The 1970-72 disc brakes were not that hot. Chrysler was having problems with them. The two piece rotors could warp under heavy use with metalic pads and the inner bearing gave trouble on occasion too.

In 1973-74 they changed the design to a one-piece rotor with a larger inner bearing. I would use those parts if I were you. You can also find the same parts on any 73-76 disc braked A-bodies.

This swap also allows you to use the larger 11.75" rotors if you want but you will have to use 15" wheels with these.

I have put up some scans of this swap as covered in MOPAR ACTION MAGAZINE in another message thread.

I hope this helped some.

You have to change the master cylinder but you can keep the booster if you want.

Go to the top of this message thread and find the bit where it says;

"The Dodge Challenger Message Board: Technical Area: Wheels/Brakes/Steering/Suspension: Drum to Disc Convert for 70 challenger"

Now click on the part of that title that says "Wheels/Brakes/Steering/Suspension:"

That will take you to the list of threads under that topic. Look for one called "Swap & Stop". That is the one you want. It tells you everything you need to know.

Good luck.
