left torsion bar

Hi guys Denis from Australia, got a problem been racking brain . I just put a new super P.S.T front end kit, 70 sublime challenger.So I fit torsion bars left side when put car on ground the height levelling bolt d0es not go into cup its sitting up, Right side good . Thinking is there a pre load trick . the L.C.A arm bolts were loose. thanks if its happened to someone or help would be great. will put pics of car assembly soon. :s006:

Denis,
Make sure the LCA hangs low when you lift the car to install the torsion bar. If it binds or sticks up (stiff bushings for example) you need to bring it down.
Some people even remove the lower shock bolt to make sure the LCA is at its lowest.
I never had to do that.

If the torsion bar socket in your left LCA is turned clockwise too much, and the bolt does not touch the adjustment lever, back up the bar a bit (out of the socket), turn the socket anti-clockwise one notch (bring lever down until it touches the adjuster), and reinstall the bar (adjust the LCA up or down to align bar and socket).

Depending on the bar diameter you have, there may be a left bar and right bar (smaller diameters) or they may be identical (big bars). If the bars have distinct part numbers, the even number goes on the passenger side, odd number on the driver side.

Thanks for that . have original B/B bars they were new. have no engine in car just done a rottisere build new roof etc. I will do what you suggest on weekend thanks for your feedback . will put pics up soon , I should never have looked up muscle car restorations site thay build a sublime challenger and set my standard to that its taken a while but will be nice, Again thanks , will let you know how I go :D

Welcome aboard Denis, sounds like a nice car you got there, we'd love to see pics and details of the build when you get a chance :wink:

Fabiens right about taking all the tension out of the LCA's.
I've had to remove adjuster bolts and disconnect a strut rod before now, just to get enough free and loose movement to slide the Torsion bar in the lower arm.
Any binding and it seems a lot of hard work.

Hi Im getting there we have a heatwave down here in Adelaide 42.oC here Damm warm and its radiant heat . over holidays will do and more , thanks for your help ...MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL. :lol:

Hi guys I seem to be in trouble again, Unreal home from sea finished front end , I THINK. does the caliper go forward or back . I mite of put steering knuckels around wrong way, looked every were to see a pic but no go , feel bloody silly. HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY . beer and a bbq, thanks if you can help :oops:

If my memory is correct, calipers normally mount at the front.
Anyway, the bleeder screw must be at the top of the caliper. No exceptions.
