70 Challenger Wiper Blade Length

PostPosted: 04 Mar 2013 12:56

I've recently installed the wipers and noticed that the blade assemblies are a bit long- as the driver's side skims over the stainless trim and scuffs it. Can anyone tell me what the correct length for these are and possibly post a pic?
Thanks!

Pull the arm off the splined drive and click it back one and see if it pulls it back a bit

Nope.
Does anyone have a stock photo of what the arms actually look like? Could I possibly have arms that are too long? the driver's side does have that pin which it hooks to, but maybe other mopar models had that as well.

???

Here you go Chuck, I used a ruler and it shows 16" I placed a white towel to highlight the wiper blade arm

One bonus question... Can you give me the actual arm length as well?

Thanks

You're too kind Ade. :s004: Chuck, it's 15.5 inches OAL(just the wiper arm) but then again I dont know if they measure from the spline center to the end or the OAL like I did. Point being, if you find a 15" "Arm" dont discount it, it may be correct. If it looks like mine then go for it.

Here's what I currently have (I actually have stainless blades on and not these ugly black ones)
Are the arms correct?

On that last photo it looks like the wiper arm is not far enough down when parked. So I suspect it needs rotating on the splines slightly just as Adrian suggested. Probably cure your problem.

Hi Dave-
The problem isn't that it might be a couple of splines too far advanced but that when it swings up, the blade actually goes across (and scuffs) the top windshield trim. I wanted to make sure the actual arms were not too long. I have a set of stainless blades but they seem too long as well.
Can anyone measure their blades and give me a length?

Thanks

I don't understand that chuck :?
Like Daveman said, the arm is not down far enough, so it makes sense that it would extend past the window edge by an equal amount wouldn't it?
If you look at that bottom pic the blade edge is about 2" above rest position, so does the wiper blade go over the edge of the screen by that amount?

Thats because his arms appear WAY to long! Look at my photos again,,use the black plastic cowl screens as a reference on both cars! Yikes! Chuck,, I gave you the measurements,,the wiper arm is roughly the same length as the blade portion,,,16"(Inches). If you cant find the correct Challenger assembly then I would place on AD on MoParts or try Craigslist. Also Stephens Performance is down in your neck of the woods,(Swamp).

So- if I'm reading this correctly- I have the WRONG Wiper Arms right?
I thought there was something wrong with it.

Wrong arms.
I don't have a photo handy, but the way OEM arms are articulated is different.
On yours, it's straight.
On an OEM arm, you'll see an articulation between the socket (which goes on top of the splined post) and the rest of the arm. I'd say the pivot point is roughly one inch from the socket.

Here's an OEM one (ouch!) :

Actually, we have a rainy season here from late May thru November. You just have to be done with your drive by around 5pm- as the rains/storms hit like clockwork every afternoon.
Good 'Ol Tropical Climate for ya!
