What are they to???

I have a 74 Challenger, non-rally dash with the seatbelt light and glove box light. I've been going over the electrical and inspecting for breaks and potential shorts. So far its been good, except for three wires under the dash, a blue, a red, and a black. All three run across the dash toward the passenger door. I am assuming one is for the door sensor, but I don't know which, and I have no clue what the other two are for. I've looked at the '73 wiring diagram and traced some other wires I was unsure of, but these three I can not find.

Any insight is much appreciated.

What connectors are on the end of the wires? Do they all run into one connector or are they separate? I don't know if this picture helps you or not. This car has the Rallye gauges. It's hard to tell in the picture but the door switch wire is yellow. The orange wire goes to the center console light. Those are the only two wires that accually exit the dash frame. The rest plug into some relays on the passengers side. The taped up harness in the center of the picture goes down to the blower motor resistor on the heater box.

There is no connector attached, just 3 sliced wires. In the image below you can see the pink glove box lead to the light, the three sliced wires and a yellow lead (door switch) and a connector with a light green and dark green wire (maybe heater box?)

There was also a box in the area of those wires, second image below. Once again, no clue what its to.

Thanks for your help so far, I look forward to solving this issue.

I've got a picture of where that white plastic box goes and what wires go to it. The picture is on my home computer though. I'll try and remember to post it tonight. There's an ovaled hole in the bottom of the dash frame to the passengers side of the glove box. That plastic box goes into that hole...then you twist it 90 degrees to hold it inplace.

Here is a picture of where that plastic relay box mounts to the dash frame.

Only two wires go to that piece. One is blue...the other is blue with a white tracer.

I dont think I have the wiring for it, but what is that second relay box for?

Also, does anyone sell or rebuild the relay boxes under the dash, I have replaced all the bulbs, and all but one fuse in the dash system, and would love to replace all the relay boxes so that I know everything is new and not blown.

So the black and blue wires are individual ends and not a special clip?
I am also still lost as to what the red wire is for...anybody?

They are in one long connector...not separate ones. I don't see why they would have to be in a special connector other then maybe so each wire goes to the correct side of the box.

I'm sorry, there is no red wire going to the passengers side of my dash. Can you follow it back to the fuse block?

I tried tracing the red wire back, but it seems like I would have to unwrap the entire harness. It joined up with the wiring for the heater fan motor, then I gave up as it went towards the rest of the wiring harness.

As for the blue and blue with white tracer, is there a specific location on that plastic box that each is supposed to go to?

These are the only options that would effect the wiring harnesses:
J25: 3 Speed Wipers
L31: Hood/Fender Mounted Turn Signals
R11: Radio Solid State AM (2 Watts)

Also, how does the speaker system factor into the wiring harness? (I think I only have the one speaker in the dash for the entire car, but will be adding a decent system)

The only wiring in the main harness for the radio is a red and an orange wire. Those wires power the radio and illuminate the bulb for the display. There are black and green wires coming out of the radio that go to the speakers. I have a rear speaker so there is extra wiring along with the harness for the fader switch. I don't know if your car has a harness between the radio and the speaker or if the wires comming out of the radio are long enough to reach the speaker.

Take a look at the picture I posted to figure out what wire goes where on that white box. It looks like yours is missing the tab that locks the connector inplace. If you hold the box with the broken tab towards you, it looks like the blue wire with the white tracer should be on the left side. That's what it looks like in my picture anyway.

Bump...
Im only bumping this post because I see Pat has answered a lot of electrical questions and am hoping maybe he can help. I figure the yellow wire and black with yellow tracer are for the passenger door switch, but am lost with the blue and red wires. This is for a 74 challenger, and my fender codes can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=9585
