Turn Signal Flasher

Hello,

In working on my car (1972) this weekend, I noticed that the 3 spaded turn signal flasher was hot, and I mean too hot to touch. Unhooked the battery and removed, and took apart. There was some burning of the component inside. I had purchased from NAPA last fall, I need to get a photo out here, but there was three prongs/spades on this one, 2 facing the same direction and one that was 90 degrees off. Anyone have a better replacement (more heavy duty that won't catch fire) for this, and perhaps a part number? My hazards stopped working once I pulled out the turn signal flasher, but I think that they both must be in for either to work.

As always, any help is appreciated.

Yeah, they need the Relay/Flasher to blink on/off they are a Bi-metallic element and it's normal to get warm but not so hot as to start a fire. I would get another Echlin/Napa unit. Sounds like that one has a short to ground.
