Hello,

I have a 440, mildy built, with a mopar electronic ignition (conversion kit). I have a set of Moroso 8 mm blue max (part 72660). Just got my engine running again, and ended burning a wire tonight. Pulled out the box and noted that on the front (in small writing) it reads "w/o elect. ign."

Seems to run fine, but wondering if I need to replace with a kit made for electronic ignitions. Looked up some other kits on Summit's site, but they do not note whether they are for electronic ignition.

It makes no difference if you have electronic ignition or not. Although if you use cheap high resistance wires it limits the advantage of having a strong spark generator. As far as I know the Blue Max wires have a low resistance and are decent quality so should work fine.

How did you burn an ignition lead? On the exhaust?

The ignition lead kit you have is for engines with stock type cast iron manifolds and comes with both straight and 90 degree plug boots.

The 440 is a pig to route the wires without touching the exhaust at times. You just have to be very careful how you do it and make sure cornering forces or engine movement do not allow the wires to touch the exhaust at any time.

That's exactly what happened.

I did that a few times and ended up using some hard plastic 90deg ones for motorcycles. They have a brass screw in the end and wind onto even fat leads quite easy and never burn thru
