Even if you fit a new harness it will not work right if the new connectors are getting put onto those dirty and corroded terminals.

Wayne. Electricity does not pass though dirt and corrosion. Well actually it usually does but the dirt and oxidisation acts like a resistor and lowers the voltage. All electrical connections have to be clean metal to clean metal.

Gonna start a clean of the connections and check all the areas where the grounds should be as per the old post Dave. That electrical cleaner should out.

Star washer..hhhmm....makes a lot of sense....

yea he is right,it will work but you are taxing the electrical system by forcing the electricity to work that much harder trying to shove it through a bunch of crap and corruption,

and star washers wont work on those crimped connections,or blade connections especially in and around your firewall/bulkhead connectors . use the electric cleaning stuff, and wipe that off the area, and all those blade connectors

Cleaner will not take the oxidisation off the surface of the metal. Only a needle file, abrasive paper, wire wool etc will get you down to bare clean metal.

I went over earlier when it stopped raining and I sprayed the shit outta that bulkhead connector.....I watched all that gunk flow out....now when I left it to evaporate away I came back and just as I was about to put the central connector back in I noticed that one of the connection pins was slightly off centre so I straightened it and carried on...I reconnected the battery and had that monkeyed connection back on.

I got in the cockpit and turned the key............................

..............instruments came alive....................................

.................turned it again...................................

..................SHE FIRED HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Got out again and tried the new cable to the neutral safety switch, tried it in park, fired straight up......

put it in D and no joy...........PERFECT!!!!

You guys did it again for me.....nice one fellas thanks a million....I can now add this to my knowledge ...I know its now that much but...I learned a good bit...multi meters....importants of contacts and ground etc....

YOU GUYS ROCK!!!! :V8:

Well hallafrickinleuula, but you still need to clean and check things as you go,

and most important make sure that sweet new neutral safety wire is secure and doesnt come in contact with the exhaust,or you will end up back where you started, have a nice week! i bet your happy

That bulkhead connector took a lot of shit when your exhaust was blowing straight onto it all the way to the EuroNats. You need to very carefully clean and check every pin on there.

That wire not connecting in the bulkhead connector was probably the main power feed into the harness from the battery and alternator.

That wire is troublesome on all mopars as ALL power goes through that one connection. So on most mopars it has tarnished and burnt and delivers less voltage than it should.

Now you have it working it will probably be OK for a little while and then go faulty again just when you don't want it to. The danger is that it will spark and burn and stop working completely.

On the other side of the bulkhead connection that wire goes directly to the ammeter in the dash and from there to the main harness. So if that connection is bad nothing works.

The best way forward is to run the wire right through the connector without any joins. That way it stays good.

It is probably a bit advanced for you to attempt this now but here is an article explaning what the problem is and how to go about fixing it.

Dave your 1000% correct....I did look at where it went in and it did look a bit brown indeed, but as you say it is a prob on all of them and there it is. I will look at the article. Thanks.

That does not mean you have to live with it.

These cars were designed to last 5 years. Not 45 years. So you have to do things to keep them going. If you just shrug your shoulders and say "that is just what they do" you can't come back later and start asking "why has my car stopped working". All cars need mantainance beyond putting oil and water in.

No you misunderstand me Dave, I mean you pointed something out and your correct without even seeing a picture of it.

I do intent fixing it but I will need help and direction on it.

I do enjoy learning these things and get great joy out of fixing a problem, it means I can do it on my own in future, i guess its just a confidence thing you know.

So tell me more on this straight through the bulkhead connection jobby??

A man boards an airplane and takes his seat. As he settles in, he glances up and sees the most beautiful woman boarding the plane. He soon realizes that she is headed straight toward his seat. A wave of nervous anticipation washes over him. Low and behold, she takes the seat right beside his. Anxious to strike up a conversation, he blurts out, "So where are you flying to today?"

She turns and smiles and says, "To the annual Nymphomaniac Convention in Chicago."

Whoa! He swallows hard and is instantly CRAZED with excitement. Here's the most gorgeous woman he's ever seen, sitting right next to him, and she's going to a meeting of nymphomaniacs! Struggling to maintain his outward cool, he calmly asks, "And what's your role at this convention?"

She flips her long hair back, turns to him, looks into his eyes, and says, "Well, I try to debunk some of the popular myths about sexuality."

Really", he says, swallowing hard, again. "And what myths are those?"

She explains: "Well, one popular myth is that African American men are the most well-endowed, when, in fact, it is the Native American who is most likely to possess this trait. Another popular myth is that Frenchmen are the best lovers, when actually it is men of Irish descent who romance women best, on average."

Very interesting" the man responds.

Suddenly, the woman becomes very embarrassed, and blushes. "I'm sorry," she says, "I feel so awkward discussing this with you, and I don't even know your name."

The man extends his hand and replies, "Tonto.......... Tonto Murphy."
