Yes Dave cheers.

AFAIK the cable to the "G" is brown, I must check it.

Dave do you think perhaps the unit of the trans could be faulty?

Also I replaced the metal securing bolt to the inner fender with a black metal bolt, might this be the reason for recent lose of grounding on the monkeyed wire job?

Well something isn't working as it should. That is what tests are for. Ruling things out at least.

5 mins with a test meter should locate the problem.

Thanks Dave.

Where do I need to place the tester and can you recommend one to me, would I get one in halfords? Are they expensive?

You can get an automotive one in Halfords that will be great but a touch on the expensive side at £40.
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165469

CPC are a few quid cheaper for the same meter and they also stock this much cheaper one;

The audible continuity tester will come in handy for tracing this fault.

Hope you're kidding, that stuff is badnews. Makes my cat puke sometimes.

Sounds like an electrician needs to take a look at the problem(s). Monkeyed shit is a major headache and usally ends up looking like poo. Plus it might save a few pounds of solder.

Jon I got the A team right here  ...I am prohibited from letting any grease monkeys look at my car.

The only guy in the country allowed to look at my car is Mo Malone, but his lives a fair bit away from me and has far to much on his plate at the moment with family and work which I completely understand, hes a top guy pity he dont live closer as I know he'd help me out if he could.

RedRaven wrote:The 3 pin neutral start/back up lamp switch - I my have it connected the wrong way around or does it matter.

It does not matter.

The certral pin is for starter replay and is connected from the starter relay "G" to the bulk head connector to the N.S./B.U.L.S.- the cable set up for this is brand new- could it be faulty?

Correct on the central pin. It connects to that connection on the relay with the "monkeyed" connection removed.
I doubt it is faulty. But that is what the continuity setting on the meter is for.

The old cable that is now removed was disconnected for sometime and the car worked without it.

Yes it worked without it because the relay was connected to a permanant ground instead of grounding through the neutral safety switch.

The other 2 pins are back up lamp switches auto and manual.

They short together in the switch when you select reverse and switch on the reverse lamp.

Does the neutral start/B.U.L.S. act as a ground?

I am dyslexic. What do you mean by B.U.L.S.? In my first post I explained how the safety switch provides a ground to the starter relay only when Park and Neutral are selected. This prevents you starting the car in gear.

You need to put your new meter between a good ground and the wire from the G terminal to the trans switch. Then see if you get continuity when you select Park and Neutral. This proves this section works.

The type of dyslexia I have makes working out acronyms and initialisms very difficult for me. Nor can I write by hand very easily. The letters in a word can come out in completely the wrong order. I see words as complete shapes and not as individual letters.
Doing something like writing a cheque was always a stressful nightmare for me.
When computers came along I found typing made writing much easier and I was able to see if complete words looked "right" and correct them as I went along. My writing speed and spelling in the last 15 years has slowly became really good as a result.

It is a shame computers came along so late in life for me really. I might have been better at school and shit if I had been been at school in the 90s instead of the 60s.

 Hey it's alright mate. Just so you know acronyms are wasted on me so don't expect me to be able to understand them.

Same if someone tries to tell me how to spell their name or something. When they say the letters I am non the wiser. I have to get them to say the letters slowly and I have to imagine each letter in my mind and slowly add each letter to this mental picture until they are all there. Once I have all the letters in order in my mind I can see the whole word and then I know how to spell it.

I was dropped on my head too many times as a kid. :s024:

You don't need to try a new unit if you just test what you have. It is MUCH easier.

Find the fault first. Then repair/replace. That is how it is done.

If you don't have continuity to ground in P or N test continuity along the length of the wiring to the switch.
If you have continuity there the switch is at fault.
