turning indicator V.s side markers (-73)

Hi all, can you guys tell me how following are supposed to work?

On my car the side markers on the fenders, are "on" when i turn the light switch to 1:d or 2:nd position.

When i put on the left turn signal , for an example...
In the front, the front marker light glows brighter while the front marker on fender is turned "off", when the front marker glows less bright- the side marker is "on" again.. Get the idea'?
In the back, the same thing... The back lights indicates with brighter light, while back fender side markers turns "off", an when back lights glows less bright- the fender markers is "on" again...

I can think this is supposed to be? Anyhow this maybe is an Swedish standard for the year, turn signal supposed to be more visible from the sides this way pherhaps?

My question is: Is this supposed to happen or not?

When i step on the breaks the side markers on the BACK fender is "Off" while the backlights is brighter... It is THIS thing that makes me crazy, it looks stupid i think... I was about to rewire this today, so that the side markers always is "On" with the light switch, no matter what i do with side markers or brakes... But before i do anything i thought i could ask you guys, what is normal & what happens on your cars?

Hi Jim
This could be a Swedish standard but, sounds more like a short or grounding problem. My sidemarker's stay the same, nomatter what I have on or, blinking. I've never heard of them doing this as a standard. I would check all connection's. I'm sure the other Mopar brother's, will chime in on this one. :wink:

Yeah you have some wiring and or grounding problems there.

What doe's Christer, have to say? I don't remember if he has, one of those, "I" numbered cars. I think Dave, confirms what I think. :roll:

Nah, i can tell from the wiring that somebody seems to have had some plan on this thing... I think this is meant to be. I surely would like an oppinion that could confirm this. Christer?

Anyway, i find it enoying, so i think i am gonna rewire... please fill up with comments on this....

No way Jimmy. It has to be a bad earth problem at least. You get all sorts of funny things going on with the lights if the housings are not in direct contact with clean metal on the bodywork.

Well, to explain how I wired my wifes Chally.....

I used what is called a "doubble acting relay" for the front side markers only......makes the ligths operate like you described...

Most likely this is used for front and aft markers on your car.....

My suggestion,.....get rid of the relay on the aft marker.....and keep the front ones...


FYI;
In Norway you HAVE to have indicators clearly visible from the side.... which make sense if you think about it.......
..Ohh, and here you HAVE to use ligths during during daytime also,...so the combo you described WILL work perfectly....

Havent seen your replie, thanks johannes! :thumbsup: I think i will get rid of this indicator for the sides, looks stupid i think... (but i will check the rules & orders for this first "bilprovningen"

Where do you placed these relays in your car? i have'nt seen any on my car(?)

nice suggestion btw, to keep them in the front... very nice! :thumbsup:
