1156 and 1157 LED Replacement Light Bulbs

Postby patrick » 18 Feb 2009 4:48

Has anyone checked into these? They seem like a good idea. I was thinking about replacing my backup, turnsignal and, brake lightbulb's. Supposed to be twice as bright and, last almost forever. Don't know a lot about them. :|
Thanks, for any input.

I put the 1157-31 LED light's, in the front marker/ turn signal's. Wow! :s012: That's some bright light! :s004: It works because, the bulb's face forward. They would not be as intense in the tail light's because, most of the light would be aimed, straight up. I like them a lot but, I think I might want to try the amber one's. I have new amber lense's up front but, the LED's are so bright, they look more yellow than orange when, lit up. Pretty damn cool, though. Manufacturer's are making more types of these, all the time. I'll post some pic's when, the kid finds the camera.

Looks great Pat! I wish you had a night picture also :P How does them bulbs look like? How many "watt"? I want to run without lights & only those marker lights in city at night, without upsetting our cop's to much... And maybe with brighter light they won't mind

I'll get more night shots, later. As you can see, it's not dark yet. But, at least the sun has set. My camera is not that good at night, anyway. These pic's are with the marker light's only. No flasher's. These light's, do shoot a ray. That's why one looks brighter, than the other. Camera angle. I stuck my finger over the flash, so it wouldn't light everything else up. Pretty high tech, huh. When the flasher's are on, they are quite brilliant!! :D

Well Jimi, this is kind of what they look like. As you see, my camera skills are even less than, Eddie's. I am unsure of the wattage. The 1157-31w bulb's are for a standard DC12Volt system. There are 31 individual LED, lights inside. They turn in, just like the normal 1157's do. At night, I can see the road with just the marker light's on, at low speeds. Like 25MPH. Legal, I don't think so. Gotta use those headlight's. When, I find a pair suitable for the rear's, I will add them as well. When I do this, I will have to add an electronic flasher. Which they make for our old car's too, they plug right in. Without that, they will become strobe flasher's. They are so efficient that, our normal flasher's wont know what to do. As they don't draw as much currant as, the standard ones. If you are interested, check ebay. The seller is estopby123.

Thanks for taking these shots Pat. But i am not sure they convince me enough  I understand that it is hard to get the effect of the lights on photo, and it does not look that dark outside.. But you feel these are much brighter right? They does not look that bright to me, but worth a shot. Is there flash lights in these bulbs also?
You totally lost me and my english at electronic flasher & strobe flasher :s008: :bonk:

Hey, I can take pics! :s024: "Taiwan Terry" is getting some 'new' fake genuine original copies of Kodak 12GB digi cams! I love the LED's on your Challenger Pat  The Tesla invention,(light bulbs) is nice and all but those were designed by Nikolas Tesla like a hundred years ago! My new car trailer's got LED's,(light emitting diodes). They are much brighter than incandescent 'heaters" Here's a few available styles, http://www.ledlight.com/automotive-led-lights.aspx

Shouldnt have to. They run on 12VDC and use way less current. Yeah Drew, I remember Tesla and Winger, white snake ectt most of em sucked. They had their moments, but the 'claim to fame' were the hot chicks in their videos!

No modification to the wiring, Drew. Jimi, what I ment by getting an electronic flasher unit is because, the LED's draw very little current. My tail light's are still the incandesent one's. So, my OEM flasher still works fine. Just a little faster than, before. If I put LED's all around, they'll fash super fast. That's what I meant by strobe flasher's. And yes, these are a two stage 1157 type, flashing bulb. And they plug right in, just like your standard bulb.

I got them off of ebay. $8.99 for two. The shipping was almost as much. I went down to NAPA, Carquest and, Thrifty Auto. They all looked at me like, . That's why, I got them through the internet. NAPA actually had some but, I think they were the dull one's, Dave tried out. Not very impressive. Eddie, I haven't checked out that link you posted yet but, I will.

Pat I actually just bought some amber one's off ebay, same brand as yours. 12 bucks for 2, shipping included. They will go well with my clear parking lenses!

My favorite picture of a Challenger is this 1970 R/T with a shaker at sunset, with just the amber parking lights on. There's no way to stuff any more attitude in a photo, period!

I have to look into this electronic flasher unit, I think. I shaved the marker lights off of my fenders, so that's 4 less lights in the circuit to begin with, and now 2 of the remaining 4 bulbs are going to be LED's......

Sounds cool, Dylan. Post some pic's. I wonder if I should have gotten the amber one's. Like I said before, the white one's are so bright that, they make my amber lenses look yellow. I'm waiting for it to get a little darker, so I can take some night shot's for Jimiboy.

Anybody seen the movie,"Twilight"? Well, that's my neck of the wood's. Good drama, bad vampire movie. Great footage of my place, though.

Pretty bright but, shouldn't drive on these, alone.

Sidney's on the phone texting. I told her about the psycho running aroung, with the hook hand killing people. As I took these pic's, a man walked up on us. Sidney screamed, "Daddy!!!!! Eddie's gonna get us!!!!!!!!!!!!"Super Lol!!
