Guys,

Finishing up the rewire and everything is working. The only problem is that as soon as I turn the key (not start car), I am blowing Voltage regulators.

Took me a while to get the issue focused there but I am struggling as to what is going on.

Surely someone has run into this before....let me know your thoughts.

Is the reg. grounded OK? If paint gets in the way of the ground circuit it can cause problems. If so do you have a DVOM,(digital volt Ohm Meter), available from Harbor frieght tools for 4.99. :lol:

Also Brad is it an electrical or mechanical reg?

1970 car should be solid state electrical regulator. I think the introduced that type across the whole range that year?

The last thing I would have checked, should have been the first. Apparently the wires were colored/marked wrong going to the regulator so I swapped them an low and behold everything works..............

A reverse polarity regulator,lol i had a 41 ford flat head v8, it was a positive ground car,and i tried to start it and of course it wouldnt start, un til i found out what it was and switched the wires and it fired right up :nod:

I didnt know that Drew about the positive ground. G.M. & Chrysler use the negative ground system, and have for decades. I bet the FoMoCo guys finally saw the light and used the Neg. ground system. This saves more electrical components placing it on the -ground side. :wink:

I seem to remember reading years ago about positive ground cars here in the UK. They might have been Fords because Ford has always sold cars here in the UK.

I don't think it uses more components. I think it works out the same. Just backwards to what we are used to. But it actually makes more sense in a way. Electron flow in a wire is from the -ve side to the +ve. It is "conventional" flow that is arse-backwards. :wink:
