starter not disengaging when key released to run position

Hi all,

I switched to electronic ignition on my 72. Checked and rechecked the diagram provided on moparts. everything seems to be correct. I have a four prong Ballast, only using one pair.

Car will turn over in start, but when key is released, it continues to turn over.

New starter relay, new mini starter.

The ignition was removed from the column about six years ago to get a key made. I don't know how it was reassembled or if it is possible to assemble incorrectly?

Any ideas on what to look for first. Service manual has three suggestions:

starter relay
starter solenoid
ignition switch

any more?

Thanks all.

Try this :
Put the key in the 'On' position, and start the engine by making a short-circuit [with a screwdriver] between 2 relay terminals (the battery positive and the (brown?) wire that goes to the starter).

If it works better like that than it does when using the ignition switch, something is wring with your wiring (either the ignition switch wiring, or the underhood wiring).

If it does not, something is wrong with your starter.

If the starter and the relay have been replaced it must be the wiring between the ignition switch and the starter relay or something wrong with the switch itself.
