Interior lights

there is a female "T" connection under my dash. on one slot it has two orange wires and the other slot has a black wire with a brown tracer and a red wire with a white tracer. my problem is none of my interior lights work. if I turn on my headlights when its dark, I have no lights so I can see my gauges. on my wiring schematic it says this is supposed to plug in to my factory radio. Its odd but I guess my interior lights feed off my radio. because I cut a male version off my old harness which went to the speakers, stripped the wires and twisted them together. I plugged it in to the one on my harness and I have interior lights. does this mean I have to have a factory radio for my lights to work properly? But what I did doesn't make it work perfectly. my interior lights dont just come on when I turn my headlights on, they come on when I turn the key on. why? since I made a "jumper" wire what did I bypass? Did you even get any of that??

You are on your own with this one Von! Sorry! I just can't think how to teach you electrics from this side of the keyboard.

It sould be obvious from the circuit diagram as to what gets what from where. It is way beyond the scope of this message board to teach you how to read or understand circuit diagrams. All I can do is post the diagrams and hope you can apply common sense and logic. Using the wiring harness from another car does not seem to fall into that area.

Tracing the electrical path of anything is very basic stuff to an electrician. Using the wiring harness from another car is not going to help you at all and may well confuse the situation further.

I am sure though that if you follow the circuit diagram and follow the electrical path with an ohm meter to check things as you go you will get there in the end.
