So many problems in such a small amount of space.

I knew I had some wiring issues, but until I actually took a good hour and looked closely under the dash I didnt know how bad. Now I wish I never looked. The system was shorted out sometime in the past, and there are several bare wires where the plastic has melted. One of the fuses GLOWS when I hit the turn signals! No fires now, luckily. The fusebox is melted badly in the bottom left corner, but it only affects that one fuse, thank god.
My question is, what does that fuse control? The lettering on the fusebox is totally gone and I cant tell what goes where. I'm trying to get some of my interior lights to work, but none of them would come on singularly (I haven't enough bulbs to hook them all up), and I'm wondering if that bottom left fuse controls them. The rest of the fuses are fine. Thanks.

mine says it's for HAZARD+MISC I hope this helps I also have a 72 I had some probs w/melting due to a faulty wiper motor and I pulled the entire harness out from under the dash. Take your time and label the ends where they go and it is pretty simple to do. Take the factory covering off and carefully inspect the wiring for signs of melting and do a quality repair using crimps and solder following w/shrink tubing. Most importantly find the problem of the shorting and fix that.
Take your time and good luck
P.S. take pictures of the harness out of the car so you can replicate the taping. I used a non adhesive cloth black tape as the factory did and it looks good. Be sure to clean the connections at the firewall while you are in there.

Thanks, I shall take your advice. I'm just going to buy a fuseblock and run my own switches and things, because the more I look at my harness, the more problems I see, and I dont have the money for a reproduction from Painless or anyone else. Amazingly, the Hazard lights still work on my car, even with the fuse half covered in melted plastic. Definitely time to junk what's there though, and replace it one circuit at a time. Hey, to anyone that knows, how many challengers came with those little turn signal indicators on the top of the front fenders? The small chrome nubs with the amber lenses in them. Just wondering.

They were not standard on any challenger. The option L31 adds them to the car.

Good luck finding a set in decent shape, and a set or repo sockets are not cheap.

But the L31 will still be on the fender tag, as mine has the light group and also has the L31 stamped on the tag.

It was just a minor point. I don't think you could order just L31. I think you had to order the light group package.
The tag code was probably just there to ensure the correct fender got on the car as I would guess there would be a fender pre-cut for the fittings?
