Distributor choice - mild 440

Postby MLMFLCN » 30 May 2006 23:40

Hello,

I am building a very mild 440. I am looking at choices for a distrubutor. Are the Mopar Performance electronic ignition fine for a motor with compression under 10:1 and 284 cam, etc.? The difference in price between this and an MSD unit is hundreds, and I don't really know that my mild mill will notice the benefits. Thanks,

Also, what is a good, moderately priced alternator to buy?

Yes. The MP electronic ignition will work fine. Much better than a points type ignition.

However it will not work quite as well as a capacitive discharge ignition such as Jacobs or MSD. These will give you slightly more torque and horsepower and work better right up to your rpm limit.

MSD now do a "ready to run" distributor with everything built in. No extra boxes to mount or anything.

You should be able to get a re-manufactured alternator from just about any parts place very well priced indeed.
