1973 Rallye

My Speedometer needle broke recently and prior to that my gas guage would only regsiter half and the temperature guage would ramp out and the clock doesnt work............so I guess its time to pull the instrument/guage cluster.

A couple of questions prior to doing this, anything difficult about doing this? Any special tools, etc?

Once I have it removed, will it be best to send off to have redone or is there someone that has refurbished guage clusters?

If I am to send off any suggestions?

No it is not very hard to take off. all you really need is a screw driver if i remember correctly. as for the guages i am not sure but you would most likely have to send them out to get re done.

There are companies that restore and even improve the guages. I am sure there is a link to one on here somewhere. Try using the search facility and see what comes up.

Loosen the nuts that hold the steering column down to the last threads and let it settle where it will. If you can remove the steering wheel (without pulling the main center bolt) it will make it easier also. The toughest thing is getting the plastic frame, the one with the wood grain away from the brake light post. A little tweeking is required and that is where the lowering of the steering column comes in. RT-Eng.com can supply parts for your clock and tach if necessary.

Don't use the Tachman for your gages. Been there done that. Three times. I am now a expert at the ralley dash thanks to him. Good luck.

Almost forgot. You will need a micro standard screw driver for the clock and odometer reset knobs. 1/16" or less to fit into the center slot.

Does anyone know where to find these reset knobs and their cables?

I saw the cables on e bay, new reproductions I believe. The knobs are for sale at Jims Auto Parts. A little pricey if I remember right. Be careful dealing with Jims. Get your final price before they ship your order.
