Electrical problem

I am having trouble with my 74 Challenger. The engine will start and run but after a few minutes at idle, the engine dies. After it dies, it will not restart. If I let it sit a couple of days, it will start again, run for awhile and then quit. Is this an electrical problem or perhaps a problem with the spark plugs? Any help appreciated.

Electrical problem

If it starts OK I doubt very much it is electrical unless there is a fault with the ballast resistor.

The first thing you have to do is see if you have spark when it is not running. Pull the coil HT lead off the distributor cap and hold the metal contact about a quarter inch from a bare metal surface and have someone crank the engine. If you have a good spark that is not your problem.

I would guess the problem is in the fuel delivery side of things. Check that there is fuel in the carb when it stops. Take no notice of fuel that squirts when you move the throttle. Check that there is enough fuel in the fuel bowl.

When you have found out if it is fuel or electrical you are half way to fixing it.

That all I can think of for now unless anyone else has sugestions but I guess that is enough for you to look into for now anyway.
