The clock doesn´t work anymore in my Challenger´s dashboard. Or should I say it has never worked. Now it is time to repair the movement. Has anybody done this before ? Seems to be not easy to get this thing out of the dash.

If nobody knows, I will put a cuckoo-clock (we have plenty of them, here in the black forest !) on the dash.

My clock didn't work either Jens. It was several years back when I first got the car and had the dash out that I made the repair. If found the clock runs on a spring movement that is electro-mechanically reset every few minutes. When one is working properly you can hear the click if you listen closely. If you are lucky you may find a problem in the electrical connection to the clock or the ground. The clock is pretty well sealed up but with a bit of patience you can get to the points on the rewind solenoid. They probably need to be dressed. This is where I found the problem on my clock and some other old car clocks as well. It will have to come out to attempt this repair. Having a working clock has impressed a few people, making the repair very much worthwhile. Good luck.

last year at the Ontario Moparefest there was a guy who was selling replacement clocks for most mopars- bought one for 20 bucks!- took me longer to remove the dash/clock than to replace it.

it was a quartz unit-12 volt- direct replacement.

20 years ago my 68 chargers clock went bad- couldn't fix it- found one out of another mopar about the same size and with the parts from two clocks I made one.

I have tried repairing mine several times. It always stops working again after a while. Places like Year One offer a rebuilding service that replaces the movement with quartz electrical. This is the way to go.

I did mine myself but the bits I used do not allow for adjusting the hands so before going to a show I disconnect the battery and re-connect it at the correct time! What a pain! One of these days I will get it done correctly.

I've just sent my E-Body clock from my 1970 Challenger to these guys:

AutoInstruments Corp.
20 Walnut Street
Martinsville, VA 24112

They'll do a regular refurb for $65 that'll last so-so.
Or- a Quartz conversion for $85 that'll last way longer.

HI- Steve from Australia here- my first post. I was going to talk about my Borg Rallye clock but found these posts already here! Looks like everyone has a simialr prob- they don't work! You should try finding someone to fix it in Australia- impossible. I might just go for the Quartz movement conversion- after all its not an RT. Only problem i have with this is: what to do about the hole in the perspex where the clock adjuster pokes out? In the 72 and on they are different to the 70's. And the quartz conversion requires the adjuster to come out a different place. Doesn't sound as straightforward as it did before!?!

You might try RT Engineering. I know they have the Rallye conversion kit.
