My turn signal indicator hangs limp from the steering column. Obviously to me I need to take the wheel off to get in to find that little switch so I can replace it. Anyone with a little help about special tools needed or where to get the switch? Before it died, it would not operate in the "lane change" mode, only the full left or right. Any clues would be appreciated!

You need a 'puller' to get the collapsible section of the steering column off. You can buy them but I made one out a bit of 1/4" steel plate and two bolts.

Not easy to describe but I will try.

The plate sits over the centre threaded shaft and the bolts pass through the plate and into two of the screw holes in the bottom of the collapsible bit. Tightening the bolts pulls the collapsible section up off the shaft.

I managed to repair my switch but the usual restoration parts suppliers sell new ones.

Thanks, Dave. I found out from owner #4 that he has the special tool, and that owner #3 had some kind of problems that he was able to get a temporary fix for that now needs a complete repair. Does the horn button (after pulling the power) pull straight off or is it a twist to the left? (I have the fake wood wheel)

Assuming you have a 70/71, the horn button pulls straight off

Just don't try to pull it off until after you have removed the three pad-retaining screws from the back of the steering wheel. That pad keeps the button in place.

jeff, before you start ripping the collapsable bit off it may be that the screw that holds the indicator stem has come loose, you can access this screw through a hole in the colapsable part of the column, i have just done this job about an hour ago! bye for now trev

I have seen a few turn switches on ebay you might want to take a look there if you can't find one elswhere!!
