white powder!

Postby uk73andy » 17 Jun 2015 22:58

I was just trying to work out why my wipers don't park and only have one speed, which is usually an earthing issue (but doesn't seem to be in my case  ), and I discovered something strange behind the wiper switch. There's a little rectangular unit attached to the side of the wiper switch, which appears to be full of white powder, which falls out when you tap it! I tried to take some photos with my old phone, which was all I could reach while in a postion that any contortionist would be proud of:

...so I'm wondering what the little unit is, what the white powder is, and whether this is anything to do with the non-park issue?

Also, what would the street value of this white powder be if it turns out to be narcotic?

It's a resistor of some sort that maintains the different speeds of the motor.
It's totally trashed as far as any resistance goes but it'll still let the wipers work at faster speed.
A new switch ain't cheap

Just so you know the panel that the switch is mounted in needs to transfer ground to the switch ! I discoverd that the hard way on the 3 speed system so i gues it´s the same way on the 2 speed and i couldent get mine to park either Before that.....
