Instrument Panel

The electrical system in my 73 Challenger apparently went through a melt down before I got the car. All has been repaired less the fuel, temp and oil pressure gage on the rally instrument panel. I have tried will no luck to substitute from other Mopars. Any tips on what gages may work for this car or where I can find a set for a rally dash?

Ive got a 70 t/a and my oil and water pressure gauges dont work. So i took the gauges out...(no small task)opened them up and found that the nicrome wire was broken...well i had someone repair the gauges..he tested them on this ampmeter, voltmeter what ever...i saw the gauges..go up..then down...so i thought...great...i put them in, started the car...the responded for a second and then died...the strange thing is the voltmeter and gas gauge are fine. So i picked up two more sets of gauges...(had to buy an entire rally cluster for one, and picked up the four for the other...) so do i try this again. Ive been assured the sending units are correct...so should a rip apart the dash again, install these and find out they burn out again ? Is there something else i should test prior ? If somebody knows..let me know before i burn threw these 2 sets.

Thanks

May be the voltage stabiliser is shorting, I think there will be one on your "new" set of clocks, but Dave will know more for sure

I haven't got a clue! At the moment I don't have time to look into it. I have my own problems! Sorry but everyone is on their own for the moment unless it is something I know off the top of my head.

Does someone have the correct part numbers i need for a temp and oil sending units to a rally gauge set for a 70 challenger with 340 block. If so, do you know where i can buy said parts.

Thanks in advance.

Bob, Year One offers the sending units. The temp sending unit for $12.95 and the oil pressure sending unit for $8.95 (for models with indicator lights) or $51.95 (for models with gauges). I think you'll need the first and last so for about $65 you've got some new sending units.

Hope this helps.

If you live in the US you can get the sending units almost anywhere. They just need to look up your car in their books.

Hans,

Thanks for the advice on year one for sending units, however I did one better, called my local dodge dealer and amazingly enough, the units are still available thru mopar. 12.00 for temp, 82.00 for oil. Yea a little more but at least i know they are the correct part from Mopar.

Thanks again

Hey Guys,
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 73 Challenger. I'm putting a 73 rallye harness in a 72 Challenger.

Thanks

my challenger is a 74 model. I recently bought a good condition used under-dash wiring harness, and installed it. I also had my rallye dash cluster sent off and all the gauges calibrated and reworked. when I started the car the oil pressure gauge and the temp gauge pegged out all the way and the gas gauge went up and down the it pegged out. the alt gauge works fine. My tach wouldn't work at all but my clock works fine. My blinkers work fine and also my flashers if that helps. My question is has anyone else come up on this problem or does anyone have any suggestions.

Thanks

In my 74, my oil pressure gauge works and my ammeter works but not my gas, temp or tach. What could it be?

It can only be that you have made a mistake hooking them up. Make sure the whole lot is well earthed to start with though.

Are the parts that attach to the back of the instrument cluster available? They look like switches of some kind on each of the 4 gauges/Clock.

Reworking dash on 72 Challenger. Anyone have info or wiring. Nothing hooked up to guages-need color reference. Also, aren't there jumpers between some of the rallye guages.

Although I have not got much in the way of wiring Diagrams for the 1972-4 Challengers it is worth while checking out what is here for the 1970 Challenger as most likely they did not change much.

Go to Technical/Electrical and then click 1970 WIRING (not circuit) diagrams. You will find a link called Instrument Panel Main Harness. Right click on it and select "Save Target As" to save it onto your computer or left click on it to see it in this frame.

It is quite detailed and very clear.
