Clutch Pedal Problem

Postby papasan » 26 Sep 2011 15:50

I was shifting from 3rd to 4th when the pedal dropped to the floor and did not return. After inspection, the fork popped of the throw out bearing of which I put back on. However, now the clutch pedal does not have its normal range of motion and is hard to move. Could a spring on the pressure plate be broken?

Sounds like it does'nt it? Maybe the throw out bearing has collapsed or worn its way thru the clutch cover spring blades/forks. What type of assembly, Borg and Beck or diaphragm? Gotta come apart anyway but double check that the clutch push rod from the Z-bar is pushing the fork back squarely and not up or down.

Adrian - thanks you for confirming my suspicions. I was hoping for something simpler than removing the transmission. All in a day's work.

Don't forget to carefully inspect the input shaft for evidence of seizure and galling, especially if you think that the clutch assembly has disintegrated, could be shrapnel anywhere
Keep us informed when you pull it out and inspect it

Thanks. That happened to me back in 79 when I blew up the clutch so bad the disc disintegrated and tore through the pressure plate springs. Good thing for the bell housing. :D However, in this case I was granny shifting so I hope there isn't any significant damage.
