Hi guys, I need some advice, my car came with a 4 spd. transmission but not the original one and i need to know if it will work with what i have. Its a 71 Challenger r/t with a 67 440 engine. I need to know if this trans will work, are these the correct rods, and what bellhousing and what size clutch would work? Any advice will be appreciated. Heres the pictures.

I used a 23 spline late 60's one like that behind a 440 in my 72 and it was a bolt in deal. There are so many flywheel/clutch combo's available over the counter you should have no trouble. Aluminium bell housing lighter than iron but I would stretch to a steel scattersheild if funds allowed. Stick with the stick

Those parts look pretty familiar. The input ring maybe something to consider depending on the bell housing used. The Straighter clutch cross shaft is whats on my small block. Looks like you got a transport hold down bracket also.

I relied on Brewers Performance, they have a website to assist me with parts, etc when I went through my 4 speed on my roadrunner. New/Rebuilt parts to help with budget but technically they were fabulous.

What are you going to do with the car? If you are gonna drag race or street fun and your engine is modified with a lot of torque you might consider a stronger manual box like the 18 splined unit with a good clutch assembly. The 23 splined unit came behind some big block packages but I'm not sure if they ever were used behind the 440 R/T 'performance' package cars like the R/T's. Ive done business with both Brewers& Passon Performance. Both great places to deal with and you can get everything you need from them Yeah,,stick with the 4-Speed! Thanks for the advice, I was thinking about taking it to Brewers to have them check it over but thats about a 4or 5 hour drive so now that i know it is an e body tranny i will probably bring it to someone locally. I wish it was an 18 spline Eddie but i have spent way too much on this car and its mainly for street use anyway.
