Are these the numbers stamped into the right hand (passenger side) axle tube?

This is a date code.

There will be something like three sets of digits?

The first pair are the month of the year. The second number or pair is the day of that month.

The last three digits start with the last digit of the model year ie 0 = 1970, 1 = 1971 etc.
Then there are two more digits that are the plant code and the work shift code.

yes those are the numbers .There are 3 sets of 5 numbers. 1 set is by itself, these fit as the date code. The other sets are about 10cm to the right, stacked.

3 6 9c2 - 10cm - 19 9a7 2957 6

in the first set , the c could also be a poorly stamped 0. The date March 6 , 1969 fits the rear, 23 spline axles, trac-loc etc. Any ideas on the other numbers? I was told when I bought it that it came from a 66 B body. The width is right for the B. I am just curious. Thank you for your help

ps I cant get the number to display the way they appear on the rear. the 2957 number is directly under the 199a number

Yeah.
March 6th 1969. The C2 after the date is a plant and shift code. The plant code is a letter so 'C' will be right and the shift code will be something like 1 = day shift and 2 = night shft I would imagine.

As for the other numbers...I don't think they will be of any use to you.

Originally there would have been a paper tag with the axle part number on it. The last three digits of that are the axle code number. These three numbers are often rubber stamped onto the axle tube (near the right side U-bolts?). These are the ones you want because these tell you what the axle spec was. A bit of cleaning around that area might show them up.

Here is a list of dana axles and their uses.

I have found a rear end, but i think it is an 8 1/4. it has a penta star on it and the casting number is 2852905. since it has a pentastar its not a dana is it?
