73 Rallye AT - Slap Stick

All,

If I try to hand shift the slap stick, the transmission will not shift down into first gear and will not go into first even if I am starting out from a dead stop.

It will shift through all gears if I don't try to do it manually with the slap stick. Is it a slap stick linkage, etc issue or is it a tranny issue?

All thoughts and comments are appreciated.

Your going to have to get underneath and check the linkage and vinyl bushing's from the tranny to the shifter. I think something is either worn, come loose, or both. Good Luck: Pat

The shifter is joined to a gear selector on the actual transmission. You will have to check that the shifter is moving the gear selector correctly.

Also make sure your kickdown lever is adjusted correctly.

Jeez. I must have been having a bad day when I wrote that. i just edited it so it make any kind of sense. :oops:

Also, check the Z-bar lower bushing.
