how much would it cost to convert from an auto to a four speed? are there any major problems with doing this or can i just drop it off at a tranny shop and say "do it".

wow i am surprized no-one has responded to this, first off you need a pilot bushing installed on the engine block(very important) i have a 4spd you need a "tunnel" for the trans to fit from what i have found(i know there is a hump there for the automatic but someone told me it wasnt enough for a manual to fit) as well as the inside parts - the service manual for 70 gives a good description of the clutch pedal and its components also i think you would need to weld in a spot for the over-center spring to sit on, the outside(engine bay)a z bar, i think the driveshaft would need to be a different length too. oh one last thing the 70s came with was a reverse warning light(not sure about the other yrs) it sits on the pass side of the ash tray, hope this helps?
