I have to put my car up on jackstands in order to drop the driveshaft; I will be pulling the engine and tranny to get it ready for the body shop.

Where are the best locations to put the jackstands? Usually I have put the two front ones under the forward end of the car where the bumper mounts bolt on, but I am not sure that is adequate. The bumper mounts are no longer on the car anyway.

Should I use more than four jackstands? What is the safest method? I have two 3-ton stands and two 2-ton stands at the moment.

I too, had my car on jackstands,(3 ton), and they were supporting the unit-body at the torsion bar front frame stub location and at the rear they were placed under the "torque box" rear frame stub area. You will have to be care full that the front end doesnt lift up because this area is very light when the body is stripped. My car came up about three feet when I stripped the last of the front end components off! Luckily I was right there with a winching strap anticipating it. You could bolt the K-member back on loosely,(4), bolts are all that holds it and its pretty heavy. I have also seen some guys use their engine stand with a fabbed front plate to attach to the car and this keeps the front end stable.

I dont think you will have any problems. Dphil, with your fenders on and the front end it should have plenty of weight. It doesnt hurt to be careful and my example was a completely stripped unit-body. Good luckBTW, and lets see some pics!!
