Vibrations?

Hi Again!

I wonder what could be wrong when I have this vibrations in my car? When it had the original 318 I couldn´t feel any vibrations at all, now 6 years later when I changed the engine to a 360 I felt it. I haven´t changen anything in the engine. When you pull the gas it gets worse... it´s like this "drum drum drum" when you drive. Does anyone else had this kind of problems?

Where does the vibration feel like it is coming from? I was having vibration issues, I replaces the universal joints and the vibration went away.

See if the vibration is linked to rpm or mph. If the vibration is only in a rpm range no matter what the gear the problem is in the engine.

If the vibration is linked to road speed the problem is in the driveshaft, axle, or wheels.

Apart from the suggestion above the actual pinion angle at the rear UJ can cause vibrations if it is out.

360 engines are externally ballanced. So you need to use a weighted torque converter or flex plate.

Also make sure all plugs are firing all the time and that the charging system is charging the battery at 14.5 volts. A bad battery or charging system can effect the ignition system.

Check the pullies on the front of the engine. Any wobble on any of them?

Check the trans mount. A bad trans mount can cause bad vibrations. If the vibration is in the engine a new poly trans mount will make it feel worse.

Are all the wheels correctly ballanced?

I had the same problem, had to add weight to the flex plate

The converter for the 360 is different than that of the 318. It is possible to balance the 318 converter for the 360 engine. Better yet, get a rebuilt converter. You updated your engine, and perhaps an update on the converter would be a wise move.
