Column Shift to Console Shift Change.

Postby 72challenger3406pk » 27 Apr 2006 22:51

Hello,
I'm thinking of changing my 727 trans from a column shift to a console shift. Has anybody done that or know somebody who has? Can I mount the new console linkage to the original column trans? Or is the whole thing impossible and I'm crazy? :s006: Any help or suggestions will be appericated. Thanks.

The transmission isn't the problem. What you are missing in your car beyond the obvious is the console and shifter bracketing - necessary for the shifter's Z-bar to work and for the shifter and console to be mounted. What the transmission will need is the Z-bar's lower pivot bracket. Also, the column-shift steering column may be something you wish to change out for the non-shifter type. When you get the shifter from the donor car, make sure you get ALL the stuff you need and/or want. Don't forget the two rods - one that connects the slap-stick shifter to the Z-bar and one that connects the bottom of the Z-bar to the shifter on the transmission. If I missed anything, sorry - I'm working from the memory of work I did a year ago.
