Loud start after fly wheel replacement
Posted: 13 Jan 2006 6:52
I replaced my flywheel and clutch assembly with all Centerforce components (71 Challenger R/T 340 4-speed). Using the same starter I had before (Torquemaster) turning the motor over is louder then before and there is a shrieking nose when the engine catches and spins up the starter a bit. It seems to me that the tolerance between the starter pinion and fly wheel ring gear is much tighter now (than before the flywheel swap). The fly wheel looks to have the correct dimensions so I don’t understand this noisy start up. Could it be that the bell housing needs adjustment somehow?? The starter is mounted to the bell housing while the flywheel is fixed to the motor. Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you.
