Loud start after fly wheel replacement

I replaced my flywheel and clutch assembly with all Centerforce components (71 Challenger R/T 340 4-speed). Using the same starter I had before (Torquemaster) turning the motor over is louder then before and there is a shrieking nose when the engine catches and spins up the starter a bit. It seems to me that the tolerance between the starter pinion and fly wheel ring gear is much tighter now (than before the flywheel swap). The fly wheel looks to have the correct dimensions so I don’t understand this noisy start up. Could it be that the bell housing needs adjustment somehow?? The starter is mounted to the bell housing while the flywheel is fixed to the motor. Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you.

That does look tight. If it was OK before then something has changed. The bellhousing and starter motor have not changed. So it has to be the flywheel. Check dimensions carefully again. It must be a fraction bigger than stock or something.

If it does check out to be exactly the same size check the cut of the ring teeth is the same in size and number.

If it all checks out maybe there is something wrong with the starter?

Thank you for your prompt reply. In fact all of my questions have been promptly answered by you and I am very grateful.

I guess (and am very glad) there are no bell housing adjustments necessary. I will check dimensions again and test some spacers between the starter and bell housing.

I actually have a QuickTime video of the pinion gear engaging the ring gear that I would love to show you but this message board does not support Quick Time videos (I think).
