Gear Ratios

Hey Gents,

I am in the market to upgrade my 8 3/4 differential.
I have a 74 Challenger with a built 383 and 727. The car came with a 318
and 2.76 gear ratio.

I wonder what experience anyone has had with 3:23's on up, how they liked it on the street and highway, and if they had sure grip.

I am going junk-yarding and have good success at recovering broadcast sheets.

On that note, does anyone know if there was a tendency at Chrysler to put sure grips on certain models with higher gears, or were these all special ordered?

Thanks Much!
JayF

Hi 3:23 are a great all round gear .I had 3:91 in my rag and i beat my buddys 383 rag every time .I found that the car would rev a little high on the highway . last year i put 3:55 sure grip in i love them ,quick off the line and pretty good on the highway ,and better gas mileage.p.s do you know george, s. On grand island he has some sweet cars .

I prefer the 3:55 as a good "all around" gear also. They can be found in Dodge vans and pickups also.

If any of the broadcast sheets you have found are for 1970 Hamtramck models I would love to have photo copies.

Happy hunting,
