The Dodge Challenger Message Board

on my 70 challenger i have recently encountered a strange noise it only happens during mid range driving or hard acceleration, at first i thought i had done some engine damage because it is a clattering noise(sounds a bit like low oil pressure knocking)but i found the noise goes away if you put the clutch in, also at a stop i can rev the engine without any noise ...so i know its the trans does anyone have ideas what could be making the noise only under these conditions? also when starting the engine the starter doesn't sound right and seems to drag, this just started after i took a nephew for a "ride" he now wants a mopar...lol. the car has the 18 spline trans

well finally got my lazy butt under my car and found nothing wrong w/the trans and got to looking at the clutch arm found a loose bolt easy fix,... the noise was the throw out bearing complaining cause the arm couldn't retract all the way also the starter housing was a bit loose so basically i tightened 3 bolts and poured a little gas down the carb and it started on the first try.....yahoo!
