727 Transmission shift RPM

I have a 383 with a 727 trans which shifts OK on the 1-2 shift but hangs even under light throttle pressure till 40-45 mph on the 2-3 shift.
The shift is quite positive to the point of being harsh.
I have set up the kickdown rods. I'm thinking next I'm off looking at the throttle pressure adjustment.
I have only just got the car so i'm not sure if the valve body is standard, but would assume if a shift kit was installed the 1-2 shift would be higher in RPM as well. It appears that the trans had been overhauled recently as the gaskets are pretty new. Type F trans fluid in there perhaps? Any clues anybody?

When you set up the kickdown rods did you put a screwdriver or drill bit through the holes in the manifold bracket and more importantly did you PULL the kickdown lever and bellcrank on the transmission all the way foward before you adjusted the rod length?

Hi Dave

Yep, as per the workshop manual, i then went on to adjust the carb linkage and that just altered the kickdown characteristics.
The reason I'm thinking throttle pressure is that under mild acceleration it shifts about right, although when cold it hangs longer. Its just under really light acceleration that it hangs but only on the 2-3 shift and at times it sticks longer and i'm sitting at 50mph in second and then whack into third

Yeah my thought too, might head off with my spotlight on the throttle valve, my guess is wear, thanks Dave
