Dana 60 axle

Postby john64 » 07 Feb 2005 16:20

Can anyone tell me how many bolts should be in the cover of a Dana 60. I read that it has twelve bolts but the axle in my car looks like a Dana 60 and only has a ten bolt cover. I could get all the numbers off the bottom of the housing if this would help id it. It is fitted in a 1972 made '73 model challenger.

Thanks
John

10 bolts I think is the required number.

This link might have useful info for you. http://challenger.mpoli.fi/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=871

Thanks Dave the link helped, I just went into garage and took a couple of pics to confirm what it is. If it is a Dana is this unusual to be fitted to a 340 car. If the clock face stamp pointing to 7 and the singlr arrow pointing to a number 2 is the dating system this would be the same as the car ie August 72 what do you think.

Cheers
John

Ah! No man. That is not the big Dana 60 with the 9.75" ring gear. Those suckers are MASSIVE!

What you have there is the CHRYSLER 8.25" axle. Not sure if or when they were offered on Challengers to be honest. I looked into this once but i can't remember what I came up with now...

I would expect a 340 to get a 8.75" axle.
