I have read that a car should never be ran without the kickdown linkage connected. Why is this and what problems can it cause if not connected.

This is only the case with a stock type valve body in the trans.

I cannot remember the technical details and perhaps someone on here can give you those but basically if you run a stock trans without the kickdown you will (and I think this is the correct technical term) totally shag it.

The pressure in the whole automatic is controlled through the kick-down rod/rods. If the kick-down rod is missing, the valve housing inside the automatic gets a signal to keep a low preassure even if you give full throttle. That is, the cluches will become worn quite quick. This is the way I have understood it.

Thanks for the help but do you all mean if the rod is completely missing or if is not connected to the carburetor.
