Suprised at what I found

I got to stop assuming with my damn car. Finally robbed enough old ladies out of their canasta money to get the beastie in the shop for some suspension work and the long awaited rear end upgrade.

I had assumed that a 74 318 Challenger, with California emission’s which had as much stock hp as a Bunsen burner, would have light duty running gear. It came with a 904 tranny, 14 inch tires, no suregrip and light leaf springs. What rear end did I assume it had? A 741, which I believed to be the lightest duty rear end available (in 8 3/4).

What did it have? A 489 with 3.55 gears, yet no sure grip! Do you think it was replaced? I am the second owner, and the first could not remember (she is 86)

Guess you can't look a gift horse in the mouth? Just going to rebuild with a suregrip and away we go.

I don't think it was replaced. I've seen many with the one wheel peel pig.
