The correct gear depends on what you want to do with the car, how far you drive it, if you race it, how tall your tyres are, where your engine makes peak torque, or where your engine makes peak power (depending on what you want from the car).

If you want best quarter mile ET select a gear that will have you crossing the finish line just after peak power (as long as you shifted just past peak power in every gear on the run).
