7260 Vs. 7290

Postby Phil Raynor (Philth) » 27 Mar 2003 12:54

What is the size difference between the 7260 and 7290 universal joints? Do they have different size bearing caps? I have just replaced my UJ's with MP ones (made by Spicer), which are the same size each end, but they have no specific markings on the UJ's or the box they came in. I need to replace the u-joint straps and would like to buy the right ones, if they are different!
Cheers!

The straps are the same for both sizes Phil. I can't tell you the exact difference between the joints but I believe it's about 1/4". The bearing caps measures the same.

The difference is in the cross section (where the grease fitting fits in) of the joints. 7290 has a wider cross. Although this is how it seems to me, but my only source so far is the conversion joint I use to convert from a small one (driveshaft side) to the big one (rearend side).
