Can anybody tell me how width a A-body rear axle is?

Application-------Width----Pad Centers
A-Body-----------55.6-------43.0
B-Body '65-'70----59.2-------44.0
B-Body '71-up-----62.0-------47.3
E-Body------------60.7-------46.0

You have to remember that A-Body through '72 had the small 4-inch bolt circle and shorter axleshaft offset for narrower A-body brakes. I have heard that you can drill the wider holes in the same small bolt axle so you can use your wheels.

I used the early B-Body housing and happy with it. However, if I had the money I would make the A-body axle fit in my car with different offset wheels and mini tub my car. I would love to do that.

Thanks Von, I was thinking the way you just mentioned to go with the A-axle but after a closer look at the inside of my fenders I saw that if I would move in the whole stuff the wheels will hit the inner fenders so then I have to put a saw in the sheetmetal which is something I didn't want to do... yet

And you got a point about the money. To fit an A-axle more things had to be changed comparing to go for some 8" wheels which just fit without mods. So I went for the Centerline telstar wheels 8x15" with 4" backspacing. These will fit.
