Anyone know if 8-1/4 rears came in Challengers? My 1974 has one, thought it was an 8-3/4 until I looked close and saw the removable rear cover with 10 bolts. Bummer...

I have read that some of the slant 6 & 318 powered Challengers came from the factory with the 8.25" rear - but these are the same references that said all Challengers used the same Torsion bars except the Hemi!

Thanks, I read another post about someone with a 1973 Charger that had a factory 8-1/4, so maybe so.

Is there a really easy way to discern a 8.25" and a 8.75" rear end from one another? Would the options sheet tucked away between the springs in rear seat tell me anything? I remember someone telling me that all V-8 equiped Challenger's have a 8.75" rear end, but now after reading the post above, I'm not so sure anymore.

Joel. Look in any Chrysler workshop manual and you can see the difference between the axles. If it does not have a cover on the back of it held on with bolts then it is most likely a 8.75 axle you are looking at.

There is also a big casting number on the side of the pinion.
