Slap-Stick Shifter Spring

Postby George Meier (440rtse) » 10 Apr 2002 22:15

My slap-stick shifter recently began to feel sloppy and had a lot of play in it. I removed the console and found that the spring at the end of the rod opposite of the shifter was hanging loose from the bracket.I looked around on the transmission hump for a small hole or anything else to connect the other end of the spring to but came up with nothing. I'd appreciate any info. Thanks

Lucky I have not put my console back in yet. Hope this helps.

BTW,
I found that putting a little spray grease on the pivot points really makes the shifter smooth and might prevent the problem you have.

I still have problems with the button sticking on mine, usually when shifting to first. I have to pull the handle out and back in. Anyone else have this problem?

I am not sure but is the button not supposed to stick in when pulled back to first so that you just have to hit the stick for the 1-2 shift?

Thanks Tedd for the help. Your picture showed exactly what I needed. I don't know what could be causing your shifter button to be sticking. I appreciate the help. Thanks again.

Its one of those occasional things and not really a priority over getting the interior in. It does have a crack near the base, maybe the looseness is causing problems.
