Procharger

hiya mates
Theres a Procharger for sale on our local forum for a big block and it works out at about $3500 for the whole kit Inc carb and pulleys etc, am well interested but thought I'd run it past you lot first, whaddya reckon?
Know I need to drop comp and maybe change cam but that's no prob, it's an F2 model, had a look on the web and it all looks pretty cool and streetable, got a bit of research to do I think :wink:

Procharger was the way I would have gone eventually if I still had the Chally. Still an option for the Corvette if I ever have that kind of spare cash again.

I think they are terrific! Someday I'm gonna sell my 400's high comp.internals and fill it with a low comp. kit then boost the hell outta it! :lol:

The kit I've been offered is supposed to be complete with 950 blow thru carb, all pulleys etc. I need to look at upgrading my fuel system to an electric pump and possibly ignition, although I have my FBO system working well I think I'll have to incorporate some MSD or similar system.
My only real concern is making it streetable enough for everyday use while still aiming for a huge spread of torque.
The link Dave sent me is very good, with loads of similar links from it to keep me reading up plenty, ta mate :wink:

Plan on a clutch upgrade like a dual disc, stronger rear end, driveshaft and U-Joints,,good brakes to stop it all, a good fuel system with plenty of volume and of course a sane driver! :lol: Sounds like a good buy but I dont know anythng about superchargers and blow thru carby's. If it were me I would save for a Fuel Injection system, carbs kinda suck :lol:

I've been looking at those for some time. The F2 doesn't strike me as the most streetable version (bigger than the F1R), and only slightly smaller than the version John Sleath used in his 9-second Audi a few years back...

On the other hand, if you can fit this under your hood, well, it will be fun.

Interestingly I already got meself an inexpensive glass R/T hood to butcher about, so nothings stopping me except the changes to compression and maybe the cam. I don't really want disturb the short block and install new pistons and rings and rebalance, also I like the idea of being able to have the flexibility to change back to normally aspirated, so I am going to check out some spacer type head gaskets that the Supercharger Store do.
This set up I've been offered has water injection but I did'nt want to get any where near the boost or compression levels to need that, and I guess I'll have to change the pulleys to alter the drive ratio :idea:
Aside from a better fuel system with an electric pump and regulator i don't reckon I got much else left to do engine wise.
If I can do what I want then I could easy get 650 hp and a bucket load of torque out of this 440 and be able to just unbolt everything and return to normal should I want to use the system on another engine.

If possible, fit an intercooler. It will make good boost levels problem free.

Alloy heads will help a lot too.

At 15lbs boost you will need twice the fuel required now. You will not want to run as much as that I would have thought?? But make sure your fuel delivery system will be able to deliver that if needed in future.

Nice one Daveman :wink: ...............am gonna use my Eddy heads anyway, I will aim for 10-12lbs of boost max assuming it all comes together :D

Whats your static Comp. Ratio now Adrian? Do you happen to know your Piston top@TDC versus the Top of the deck?(Deck Clearance)? What type of pistons are you using and are they fortified for boost pressure and extreme heat? Just slapping on a SuperCharger without knowing these things are usually detrimental to engine health unless certain issues are resolved. Example: Most pistons designed for positive pressure<(boost) or Nitrous have thicker ringlands especially the top ring land and also the pin boss is usually thicker and the crowns. Unless you limit yourself to only a few pounds of boost, then it wouldnt be cost effective anymore. Not trying to throw water on the whole idea Ade,(I LOVE it) just trying to help sort it all out. :lol:

Hi Edd, the pistons are KB Hyper with a 0.075" step and are + 0.030", fitted with SealedPro file fit rings that were gapped to KB's recommendations, fitted to Sixpack rods and a steel crank, whole assembly has maybe 5 or 600 miles on it and is a s sweet as a nut :mrgreen:
The comp ratio now is 10.5:1 with a std Felpro gasket and using the current 452 casting heads.
I saw some special gaskets that lowered comp ratio by 2 points, Hot Rod magazine used them on a BB Mopar build with some success, so I could easily achieve around 8:1 c.r. without much work, that should allow me to run 12 lbs of boost with no fear :idea:
I plan on using the Eddy heads that I got a little while back, that will help run higher boost, I plan on using an intercooler too but I don't think the vendor mentioned that, I'll have to check.
The kit thats for sale comes with water injection but I did'nt want to run numbers high enough to warrant using that just for street use.
I just love the idea too mate, I want to push some power out and have a big hit of torque but I still want something very easy to live with and maintain, greedy ain't I :?: :lol: :lol:

Wow, Ade, those would have to be some VERY thick gaskets! :lol: I would definitely ask the "SC store" about this before you buy the kit. Also I would E-Mail United Machine(KB Pistons) and ask them how much boost the hypers can take. Hyper pistons are more brittle then regular cast pistons. Forgings tolerate more abuse,(heat), because they are very ductile and will deform when the tune isnt right or they make contact with something that shouldnt be there or is in the way. I have seen KB hypers that went Ka-BOOM after the clown tried to gap the rings according to his specs, the hypers take a special gapping process to allow for upper crown expansion when at operating temps. I would definitely ask these experts before you buy that kit. I will also refrain from anymore 'negative posts' :lol: because I really want you to get that kit and then I will learn as 'we go' from you when I convert mine over someday OK, thanks mate :D

Well, guess what?.............. he's sold it :shock: ......... never mind tho, cos this I think is the way to go for a fully streetable heavy hitter :D
Gonna start assembling a system over winter and make the relevant drivetrain and fuelling mods :wink:

It would be far too easy for me to say I was talking rear wheel horses but of course i was'nt :oops: :lol:
Having said that i reckon 650-700 hoses in an easy to live with everyday driver is pretty good, I was actually trying to be realistic, don't tell anyone will yer............... :lol: :lol: :lol:

Yeah you don't want to be running 30-40psi boost. :mrgreen:

I wouldn't want to run more than 15psi on a mainly street driven car. I would aim for at least 8-12psi though.
