Think I've found a "black hole"!

No, not as exciting as it sounds, but I think I've stumbled on a fault in my Edelbrock carb. Went to start car earlier this evening, has'nt been run for 2 months, cranked it, it started fine, then flooded almost instantly, fuel all over the manifold etc. Pulled the air horn off to clean the needle and seats and while looking around for any obvious problems I saw that the weighted air flap above the secondarys was jammed open. I jiggled it around and found only 30deg of movement from wide open. Removed the secondary boosters to get to the flap and found that the weights were jamming against the carb body. A little twist with my hands was enough to allow the air flap full movement and fall back against the wall of the venturi's. How long it had been like that is anyones guess, but the interesting point is that I've always had a problem with a flat spot the size of the said black hole every time I mash the pedal :!: Could I have stumbled on the causre while fixing the fuel leak :?:

Well that certainly could do it. :s017:

Yeah thats what I thought Dave. If it opens too quickly it will cause a problem, so if its already pretty much open its bound to take the motor an age to catch up with the sudden air flow.
Anyway mate, happy new year :D

Should use less fuel now also. Good find. :s017:

If the air flap is always open I assume that it will draw fuel through the boosters then. That would explain a lot

Dried the plugs and reassembled the carb, it fired up nice, it idled nice and after a gentle cruise around the local city roads I give it a little squeeze and it pulled like a mad thing from about 30 to 80 in 3rd gear :D was quite impressed with it, but then I got a bit carried away and started mashing it up everywhere  Good result there then eh lads :?: :D
