Hi

Please can someone post a link to a previous thread or tell me what the correct factory motor timing should be on a 1970 440 Magnum/4 bbl?

Thanks

Don't do it!

It will run like a pig, the exhaust will smell like it is rich, it will not make very much power, it will use more fuel, etc etc

Here are the factory specs. But like I say, if you use them it will not run right.
Modern fuel takes much longer to burn and the engine will need more initial timing. Probably at least 12-14 degrees initial. But then you have to make sure the total mechanical timing does not go over 34-36 degrees.

I would reckon on 12deg BTDC at 800rpm on an automatic with the vacuum disconnected..................but, you are far better off following Daves instruction on setting timing at the top of the Electrical section , its very informative and easy to follow

Excellent thanks for that. :D

Yep she already runs like a pig, exhaust smells rich etc etc, was hopefully factory timing might improve things

I'll borrow the old strobe gun tomorrow and give it a go!

Cheers
