dyno pull...anyone wanna guess what my stroked 451 did

rear wheel horsepower....it was 94.3 degrees and humid...not great weather...but it was only 50 bukcs for two pulls.....any guess's...????

heres the specs 451, 10.5 to 1....diamond pistons, hbeam rods, steel crank, roller hdyr cam 576/55/ in 242 ex 249....pro magnum roller rockers, 1.5.....2 inch hookers, into 3 inch flows 44's......mi intake, 850 quick fuel carb 1 inch spacer....

drew!!! i wish man......thats what i was hoping for....didnt happen.......393 with only 385.90 torque.....now that rear wheel at 94.3 degrees heat lotsa humidity, with 34 degrees timing.....no aircleaner..through the pipes and muffs...i was a lil bummed...i thought the torque would be alot hight with this set up......they computed 20% loss for my loose convertor and auto.....so that came up to by there program figures too 491.25 flywheel and 482.5 tork.........any input.....some have said the heat killed it...and the timiing is too conservative and the mufflers........wadda ya think......as usual most guys are disapointed....

I would have expected about 60-70hp more than you got.
At sea level anyway.

You don't say what spec the heads are? Are they sized and flowed to match the cam and rod/stroke ratio?

Nice numbers. On our SuperFlow a new Z-06 Vette makes 385 HP and about the same torque give or take. A new Hemi Ram makes about 260 HP Yes, the Humidity&Temp is a factor, did they place a large fan in front of the car?

hi dave, i dont know if u remember me....im buddies with airfloweddie.....anyway...the heads are 452's flowed too 285 cfm suposedly......I depending on my engine builder,who is the same guy who did the heads,....cam motion who ground the cam, and don at fbo....when i finally got it all together.....and some tech help from comp.....i know my engine guy called cam motion or vice versa cause they asked me questions i coulndt answer....(newbie)......so i was assuming its all matched......i did not have the intake matched to the heads though...which was a bad idea im sure.....several people have asked me that in the past......believe me dave i was expecting alot more....like you said 50 or 60 hp more......any advice u can help me with (or understand, lol) i will take.....im amazed how ur car performs with ur setup ....11;s in the 1/4 is amazing to me.....

No dyno in my area or even close to my area.

The mph on a drag strip is as good as a dyno. As long as you know the exact weight of the car with driver, fuel etc. Mine works out at 445hp at the rear wheels. But I have a slightly different cam now so I will have to see how it goes.

dave rod and stroke ratio are 3.75 6.358 1.70 ratio

what is your rear gear ratio?,is it an automatic?

and yes i was way off but i think those are very good numbers for a small block :nod:

More flow than my heads and nearly as much as Edelbrocks. So with that and the more agressive cam I would have expected much more power than my engine.

His engine sounds like it's a 400 with 440crank.

yes guys its a big block 400 stroked to a 451 well my heads are prob not 285 cfm then dave.....that was the number he told me on the phone...u know sales bs....i didnt get a flow sheet or anytghing....just his word.....i was 11 years younger...naive...should of got stuff in writing.....dont get me wrong...its held together and pulls good....i just not buying the flow numbers or hp numbers he told me...when i decided to do the project i dont think im tooo far off ..am I?.....451 inch....10.5 to 1.....adjusted 20% loss for auto, figures to 491.25 fly wheel hp in 94 degree weather.....how much more do u think id make in 70 75 less humid conditions.....

found my fbo card.....intial is 21 total is 34 @2970 rpm.......no vacuum advance..........anyones input on these numbers??

Thats close to what mine is. I have 20 initial and 34 total at 3200 RPM's with 12 degrees of constant manifold vacum advance. Those are both good numbers Jeff. The earlier the intake valve is opened and ther later it closes determines the initial. We both have pretty healthy cams and Daves is even more radical than ours and he needs 25 inital. At low speeds we dont have a lot of cylinder pressure and need more initial to compensate for this. I think your timing is spot-on :thumbsup:
