Is that the April 2002 Mopar Muscle Magazine with the 360 stroked to 408 ci that dyno'd @ 607.5 HP?
That's impressive!
The March 2002 Carcraft magazine has an artial on the same motor.

Are you still going to use the Edelbrocks heads?
The Edelbrock heads with the stroker bottom end sounds like a good way to go.
In the Magazine they used W2 heads.

now been looking on how to do it cheapest:

i already have .030 over flat top pistons. can i have a bigger crank cut down to the specs i need? Then only buy bigger rods? or i cant keep anything?

Talk to Hughes Engines. (You knew I was going to say that didn't you!) They will advise you if you can use your existing pistons or not. But I would advise you to use a complete kit. that way you will not run into any problems and you will have no need to get everything balanced by someone.

Also if you give them your stock crank it knocks $150 off the price of their stroker crank.

Their kits give you everything you need from crank balancer to gaskets and oil seals. New rods, pistons, flexplate, EVERYTHING. All perfectly balanced. The full 10.2:1 compression kit is $1700 but if you can re-use some of your original stuff the price my be less.

Honest! I do not get commission or cheap parts from these guys! I just think they offer good value for money. That is hard to find these days.

i looked on their site yesterday and i didn't find anything about a kit. i will e-mail them today. thank you.

tell me how their kit compares to this one.

www.flatlanderracing.com/stroker360412b.html

i think it is alright but i dont want to pay for a billet crank. its that or a cast crank. i want a forged. about that i dont know what to do. i will get the PRO-Line "H" beam rods and i dont know about the pistons. they are both forged and the price is the same.

nevermind. finially found it. theirs is much better in the long run. i guess it is there for my taking. my pistons are hypereutectic .030 over 9.5:1 flat tops. and that is what theirs comes with. maybe they would knock some of the price off if i can still use my old ones. we'll see.

now for your opinion. how will this change the use and performance of my car. will i still be able to drive the dumb thing? the compression will only be 9.4:1 and i might even keep the mild cam that i have. but theres that thing of having a bottom end engine now. will that kit make it a top end only. i understand i need to keep all my parts in the same RPM range. the best thing to do is talk to them probably(Since they ARE a god; right). i dont think i want a top end only car. i'm sure my heads (Being done by Hughes)will be sufficient? how about the intake? the one now is a dual plane MP. alright or not?

The bigger the cubic inches and the longer the stroke then the more torque you make over the whole power range. It will make your car more drivable if anything and you will find that you can get away with a more radical cam on the street. You can't loose is the simple answer.

except in gas miledge right? (i would have decent highway gears in.)

On a long trip a bigger engine does not always mean less mileage. That depends more on how your car is geared to match peak torque with your cruise speed.

But around town, well ok it will be worse but not that much worse. It will pull like a big block. All that extra torque will allow you to use less throttle. But because it will feel so much stronger you will be too tempted to use the throttle!

Trust me. More cubes is more fun!

you know that feeling you get when you want something so bad you cant stand it but you know you cant have it for a while. like when you already know your christmas presents but you have to wait? i got it bad!

i am definately doing this with the kit from Hughes. i called them yesterday and we got it all figured out. the 9.4:1 KB kitw / the H-beam rods, the HE3844AL cam(with a stroker you get a bigger cam than you normally would), bigger carb, maybe upgrade my springs, and maybe some other little stuff. other than that its all good. i am so excited. im trying to sell my two jetski's today so i can have some money.

i have talked to several people and they all say i cant go wrong. they say i am just worried because of all the myths. the only reason i would have less gas miledge is because of my right foot!

Did they say that compression was ok with that cam? I would have expected them to tell you to use the 10:1 kit. But they know best!

Told you these guys give good value for money didn't I? For about $2K bucks you are going to have over 400 inches and about 450-500hp? from a small block? That cam will loose you some bottom end torque (it is the same spec as the cam in my 440) but with the right converer you will never notice and it will beat almost everything on the road away from the lights.

I am not surprised you are excited man.

ok, tell me what to do...

i pulled my engine, put it on the stand and took the pan off to have a look. there ended up being a rod cap loose (#3) its going to the engine shop today to confirm. my dad was happy that all it was. i was not because i was looking forward to making it bigger and better. now i need to know whether it is worth it to tear it apart and rebuild it if in fact there is an easy simple fix.

wishfull thinking is that it still messed up the crank. (that is really bad isn't it!) so i would have to fix it.

Truth is that even if it marked the crank journal it might easily clean up and at worse need a smaller diameter bearing.

No one needs to make their engine more powerful.

We just like doing it!
