Jon..yes the LD340 was a very a good intake, they are quite sought after down here. I think you can block off the heat riser quite easily? I do know that it can be done in the cylinder head as well, where the exhaust gets pumped into that U shaped area. Jon, if you are on a budget, here is a manifold i saw at the same place, KMJ Performance - i was going to buy it but it put the postage price up too high. For $150 it looks ok. But made in you-know-where. The AirGap down here are up around $600+

in any case, this is the manifold i was thinking of that i had hidden away, it is called a Victor 340 (Edelbrock) and is the Air Gap design - just wondering Eddie if this is the same manifold as the AirGap but a different name? If not, do you know much about these?

The Victor line of Intakes are Single plane. They are for high RPM usage and you will lose a bit of torque on your smallblock at lower RPM's. The Intake I am refering to is a dual plane Edelbrock AirGap. This the name of the intake 'The AirGap 318,340,360' you will not lose any bottom end power from that intake like the Victor in your picture. The one in your pic would be nice for a competition or hot street engine a stroker as well. But in your quest for a good running dual purpose engine,,I wouldnt use it. A large plenum with short straight intakes=Higher RPM it needs the 3 'C''s to really shine,(Cam, Compression, Bigger Carb) The AirGap is similar to the single plane only in the fact of it's divorced lower plate, that seperates the runners from the valley plate, this helps to keep Hot engine oil from raising the intake charge temp increasing the density of the intake charge. However, all the tests Ive seen with the Airgap,(dual plane) eds intake show it gives up nothing in the way of HP and actually increases torque thru-out the RPM range. The 340 Victor might make a few more horses at 6k+ RPM's but how many times are you gonna be at that RPM on the street,(unless U are Drew) :lol: I would save my pennies are better yet E-Bay the Victor 340,(single plane), to a racer,,buy a AirGap and retain the torque while increasing the HP....I love mine!!

You guys are right again! :oops: as soon as i started reading your post i realised, of course, this is a open plenum single plane, the Airgap is a dual plane. Thanks for reminding me -and good idea, i will put that inlet on the market (not ebay though - they have #%$@ me around too often with selling) and use the money for an airgap. I have a sneaking suspicion that the link i told about in the last post is a chinese version of the airgap, except it doesn't have the gap at the front, only underneath and at the rear.
