hey guys,
today i put the flowmaster mufflers on my car,it sounds sweet !!!
anyways in doing the exhaust i know longer have the factory exhaust mufflers at the back before the tips. my question is >> should i leave the heat shields on or take them off. all opinions would be great.
the straight pipes are far away from the heat shields so will it cause a lot of heat or is it ok to remove the heat shields?
let me know.

You don't need the heat shields.
If the pipes are close to the fuel tank a shield protecting the tank would be of benifit.

When I put a Flowmaster on my Durango, there was a piece of paper in the box that said...The engine temp may go down by using the Flowmaster muffler but the exhaust temp may rise.
The heat sheilds at the back of the car don't weigh much so that isn't a concern. It all depends on what you want to do. Do you not like the look of them back there? They aren't going to hurt anything by leaving them. You may want to think about some shields for the Flowmasters though. The back seat area might get pretty hot.
Not to hyjack this thread but does anyone have a picture of the heat shield area on a freshly rebuilt car?

the muffler shop put the pipes pretty far away from the gas tank and the top of the trunk. when the mufflers were there they made a lot of heat and were also close to the gas tank,i remember getting stuff out of the trunk and the trunk floor was very warm before.
the reason i want to remove them is because my heat shields look like crap!! especially now that you can see them clearly now without the mufflers back there.
they are pretty worn out with some side holes rusted out,lots of tar and rust on the back side.
so off they come. i may consider getting a new fresh pair of repro heat shields so they look good.
i have decided to rip them off,go for a long drive and just feel the base of the trunk floor.if it is cool i will just leave them off.
thanks guys.
attached is an old photo of when i had the mufflers back there,as you can see the mufflers totally cover the heat shields.
i will post another picture soon of how my car looks like now without the mufflers on the back.

Anyone have a picture of the shields and how they attach to the car? Specifically what bolts are used.
