I am thining of swapping a 440 in for my 318. The car is a 70 challenger and the engine/tranny is from a 78 truck. I don't have the numbers on the engine yet. My question is, are there any real differences between car and truck engines? Oil pan, filter location, manifolds? I'm aware of the usual suspension/brake mods that will be necessary. Besides compression, what other aspects might stand in the way of performance with this year of engine? Forged/cast crank?
Also, will the tranny fit. I have a console mounted slap stick. Will the linkages work?

Thanks,
Perry

the oil pan may be different. Most trucks have a rear sump. Cars are in the center of the pan.I'm not sure about the trans linkage.the exhaust manifolds are different, motor mounts are different. How big a truck is this 440 from?

Cast crank but don't worry about it's strength unless you plan for 600+ HP.
