O.K. guy's, this is for you small block owner's. I have a 1973, #'s match 340, Challenger. Why do the 70-71's, look so much different, from 72-73. I whipped this on Eddie, last night. He's on the big block state of mind. So, he is unsure. He sudgested, I talk to Jon. So, Jon and, everybody else, that has one, let me know what you think. What's the difference beside's the different look? Flow, breathing, emission's etc...? I think I'm gonna win the driver's side exhaust, on an ebay bid. Is it really worth it? I'm happy with what I have(#'s Factory Manifold's) but, I kind of like the look of the earlier model's. Are there any bennifit's? :?
P.S. I took off the header's, that were on the car, when I bought it. Tired of bonking them on, uneven ground. I think I'll win this thing, for under $20.00.
Thanks, for any thought's
Patrick

Pat, mine has headers since I got it so no help here.

But.... Numbers matching and original equipped makes all the difference in my book. Anyone can mod a car but when it comes down to it something that is not altered is a survivor. A virgin not to be messed with. :s021:

As for the manifolds It just so happens I talked to an eBay seller/restorer today that i bought a fan for my 340 and he was lamenting about selling his 70 Hemi Cuda when he was a kid (bought in 74), the dog dish hub caps from it (he threw away) air cleaners, carbs etc. One of his comments was tossing several sets of 70 340 manifolds which are worth $450 today. If you can get one side for $20 (that's solid :| ) that's a steal.

Good luck.

Jon

Always keep your original stuff though.

I did win this, 71' 340 exhaust manifold. $27.00 Buck's, to my front door. The seller was on, the up and up. No breaks, no crack's, no warp's. I was comparing this, to what was stock on that side. I thought that, I might want to save, to swap for something at the NAT's but, now I'm really thinking on installing and, putting the stock one away, for now. As I said before, there is little difference in the passenger side. I have 2.5" coming out, with a crossover, just past the tranny. This driverside manifold, really doe's out do, what a 73', 340 drivers side manifold ever thought of. Much beefier! Looks like, much better flow. Pre-smog and, the price was way too good. I haven't made up my mind, yet. I need your input, Mopar, Bro's. Would like to hear something, from, Barry. SVP.
Here are some Pic's.
P.S. Jon, I won't get rid of anything original, to this car. I still have everything. Even a 73', might be worth something, someday. Even though it's a Rallye without, a Rallye code. :s024:

AS always, I will keep, everything. I may go back to header's but, for now, header's are not for me. My girl is a surviver but, definately not a virgin. Story of my life! :s024:

Congratulation on the winning bid Pat.

I talked to a guy the other day that lives 340's and he said the "T" manifolds flowed the least. The earlier ones that form a collector at the end kinda like headers are best. If you want I will check to see if he has a match to yours.

That would be cool, Jon! Maybe, I'll try to swindle the other side, too. I've been doing pretty good on his ebay thing. :s016:
